There are thousands upon thousands of such stories of wasteful politically motivated spending, this one motivated this post.
Much of the spending that has taken place globally for the last several decades has been with borrowed money. This is simply because politicians are, for the most part, worms that do not have the integrity to demand an increase in the rates the taxpayers pay. They know they’ll get booted from office at the next election. Yet if they don’t make grandiose campaign promises, and if they don’t help out their buddies, you know, the one’s that gave them the money to get elected, then they won’t feel as ‘important’ as they think they ought to feel and furthermore, there are up and coming politicians who WILL do it, so in order to compete with them they choose to do it.
The reality is, we should be associating politicians with janitors — equating them the same social status –some have ended up as such after their political careers went into the toilet. But instead we treat politicians as great entrepreneurs, we treat them as great men and women – but what have they done that is so great? Nothing at all. They managed to convince (perhaps bribe) a few people to invest in their campaigns for possible future returns – this is what an entrepreneur does at the beginning, but a real entrepreneur isn’t considered great unless he succeeds at producing something of value for society. The key word here however is producing, for politicians NEVER produce anything of value, they confiscate (steal) money from one group and give it to another – with such an inauspicious beginning, how could anything developing from it get better? It doesn’t.
Unfortunately, politicians are addicted to their position. They never earned anything by really producing something. The only way they can hang onto the fame and fortune of the office is to cheat and, so, cheat they do. Instead of demanding that voters/taxpayers pay more for what’s on offer, they borrow the money needed to fulfill their promises. Ultimately this leads to an increase in, and the devaluing of, the money supply, which, the government generally has a monopoly over. The result is that the poor are destroyed and, not being able to buy even a loaf of bread, they must turn to thievery themselves in order to survive.
The only honest answer is to take the power back from the politicians and to shutter the government, either one chunk at a time as Ron Paul suggests or all at once, but in any case, it’s literally THE ONLY HONEST ANSWER. Every other solution, will only see more of the same and the problems made worse.
The SYSTEM itself is broken. Why struggle to mend a dead horse? It’s dead. Mourn if you wish, but MOVE ON.
